Supersonic Flows, Mixing, and Combustion

Principal Investigator: Professor Ron Hanson
Research Associates: Dr. David Davidson
Research Assistants: Leyen Chang, Will Heltsley, Jordan Snyder, Christopher Strand
Recent Graduates: Adela Ben-Yakar, Chris Morris

Emerging aerospace applications, such as scramjets and ram accelerators, represent challenging new areas for research and development. We are investigating areas focused on supersonic flows, mixing, and combustion by utilizing modern optical diagnostic techniques such as PLIF and diode laser absorption to provide detailed spatial and temporal information about the complex flowfields which occur inside these devices. In addition, our ultra high speed framing schlieren provides a unique tool to study the flow development of very high speed flows.
